IPL 2023 Auction

IPL 2023 Auction has a total of 405 players up for auction, with INR 1.67 billion spent collectively amongst the ten franchises in Kochi. All-rounders were the most sought-after players on the night when English all-rounder Sam Curran created a new record by becoming the most expensive player ever after announcing his return to Punjab Kings for INR 18.50 Crore. Cameron Green  being bought by Mumbai Indians INR 17.50 Crore. Indian batting star Mayank Agarwal was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad at INR 8.25 crore along with explosive English batter Harry Brook who made merry at IPL 2023 Auction too. Pace sensation Shivam Mavi joined defending champions Gujarat Titans for INR 6 crores in what was an intense bidding war between teams that showed no signs of stopping until late into the evening - this was only a small glimpse of what was to come from IPL 2023 Auction!

Punjab Kings made a bold statement at the IPL 2023 Auction when they committed INR 18.5 crore to secure the services of English all-rounder Sam Curran, breaking the record that had been previously set by Rajasthan Royals back in 2021 when they bid INR 16.25 crore for South African all-rounder Chris Morris. With a base reserve price of just INR 2 crore, the Player of the Match of the T20 World Cup final quickly saw his value skyrocket as Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore got into a bidding war that would eventually be won by Punjab Kings. Chennai Super Kings, PBKS and Lucknow Super Giants also joined in but it was Punjab who triumphed in this high-stakes game.

Later, Cameron Green continued to soar in value as Mumbai Indians agreed to a big INR 17.5 crore deal for the Aussie all-rounder. Ben Stokes was not far behind either, as Chennai Super Kings matched Morris’ record by acquiring his services for INR 16.25 Crore. With MS Dhoni possibly in the twilight of his career, Stokes is seen as a potential successor who will take the Chepauk crowd into the future. West Indies' Nicholas Pooran astonished everyone when LSG picked him at INR 16 crore - eight times his base price - making him the most expensive wicketkeeper ever in Indian Premier League history.

Harry Brook, of England, was the second player in the auction and generated a bidding war between three franchises (RR, RCB, and SRH). In the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired his services at a staggering price of Rs 13.25 crore. So far, he has yet to participate in an IPL tournament despite showing promising results in the ongoing Test series against Pakistan thanks to his powerful batting style. IPL 2023 should be ideal for Brook to showcase his abilities and deliver impressive performances.

Former Punjab Kings Captain Raj Agarwal would have never expected to be signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rs 8.25 crore, particularly after an unimpressive batting average of 16.33 in 13 matches and a strike-rate of 122.50 in the previous season. In 2022, Punjab Kings had acquired him for Rs 12 crore, yet the team failed to reach their goals under his leadership, finishing sixth on the points table. Nevertheless, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings joined forces to increase the bidding war for Agarwal, ultimately Sunrisers Hyderabad obtained him for Rs 8.25 crore - much less than what he got from Punjab Kings but four times more than his base price of Rs 2 crore.Cr pati can also have such a high rate of return. Cr Pati's sports welcome bonus can get 150% return, the highest bonus is 20,000, just like the players at the auction, it is worth investing.

List of Unsold Player

IPL 2023 Auction Unsold

IPL 2023 Auction saw total spending of Rs.1.67 Crore as 80 players were snapped up by the 10 franchises - but some were less fortunate as they failed to find buyers due to a combination of factors, be it team chemistry, remaining slots for foreign/local players or poor form prior to the auction.

Dasun Shanaka went unsold despite being expected to go for a good price in IPL 2023 Auction. The Sri Lankan all-rounder is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and his impressive previous results suggested he would be a great addition to any team. However, no one made bids.

Dawid Malan was omission at IPL 2023 Auction. The left-hander has been a key figure in England's top order, and proved his worth by topping the charts in their Hundred tournament with 377 runs off 9 innings at an impressive strike rate of 166.81. His efforts were rewarded when he was part of the side that clinched the T20 World Cup title, even though he played only a minor role during the competition.

Indrajith's misfortune was compounded by the fact that twelve wicket keepers, seven of them Indian, were sold in the auction as he failed to secure an IPL contract. The TN batsman boasts a solid batting technique and has been consistently performing well in first-class and List-A cricket over recent years. He only featured three times for KKR last season, scoring just 21 runs - a result which would have sealed his release from the franchise at season's end.

Sandeep Sharma was left crestfallen after going unsold in the IPL 2023 auction. With 104 games to his name for SRH, the bowler was taken aback by being overlooked and articulated his dismay with. His fortunes may yet turn around though as he could still feature in the IPL 2023 season as a replacement for an injured player.
